First Look: 2016 Cadillac CTS-V

Corvette Performance from a midsize luxury sedan.

by on Dec.22, 2014

The new Cadillac CTS-V is the luxury brand's first production model to break the 200 mph wall.

When General Motors flagship brand launched its then-new ATS sedan several years ago, it sounded a warning shot to competitors with an audacious ad campaign dubbed “Cadillac v the World.” In hindsight, it might have wanted to wait a bit, because the all-new Caddy CTS-V promises to be the true world-beater.

Set to debut at next month’s Detroit Auto Show, the third-generation, 2016 Cadillac CTS-V will not only be larger and more lavishly equipped, but it will also deliver an awesome upgrade in performance. The new supercharged 6.2-liter LT-1 V-8 will punch out a neck-snapping 640 horsepower and 630 pound-feet of torque.

Muscle Up!

To put that into perspective, that’s 84-hp more than the Gen-2 CTS-V and a mere 10 ponies less than the new Chevrolet Corvette Z06.

The most powerful production model ever to bear the Cadillac crest, the new V sedan will launch from 0 to 60 in a mere 3.7 seconds. It also becomes the first Caddy road car to ever break the 200 mph top speed barrier.

Cadillac Giving High-Performance V6 to SRX

Maker revamping line-up.

by on Apr.13, 2011

Caddy will drop a new, 300-hp 3.6-liter V6 into the SRX crossover for 2012.

The hot topic may be fuel economy, these days, but performance still matters, especially to luxury car buyers, it seems.

So, Cadillac is planning to put the focus on “red-blooded luxury” with a 3.6-liter direct-injection V6 that it plans to drop into the popular SRX crossover later this year.

The 2012 SRX will see horsepower jump from 265 – with the current, 3.0-liter V6 – to 300, while torque will climb from 223 lb-ft to 260.  Fuel economy is expected to be comparable to the current model’s 18 mpg City and 25 Highway, the maker says.

A Smart Source for Auto News!

The SRX was completely redesigned for the 2010 model-year and quickly saw a more than 150% increase in sales.

But it has lagged behind other models in the Cadillac line-up when it comes to performance.  General Motors’ flagship brand has added a number of new V-Series offerings, including the 2011 CTS-V Coupe, which churns 556 horsepower out of its 6.2-liter supercharged V8.

First Drive: 2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe

The long wait for a world-class Caddy coupe is over.

by on Jun.21, 2010

Cadillac's 2011 CTS Coupe is the latest addition to its "entry" luxury line-up. A high-performance version, the CTS-V Coupe, will follow.

Cadillac’s burgeoning family of CTS-branded vehicles, the original four-door sedan, the high-performance CTS-V sedan, and the slick CTS sport wagon, now includes a radically edgy coupe.

It’s been a long wait.  Caddy’s last true coupe, the Eldorado, went out of production in 2002.

Is it different from the CTS sedan?  Yes, and in more than a few key places and dimensions.

The 2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe is virtually identical to the concept vehicle shown at the Detroit auto show in January 2008.  The 2-door’s wheelbase is the same as the sedan’s, but the roofline is two inches lower, the body is two inches shorter, and the rear track has been widened by two inches compared to the existing sedan, to plant those big tires.  The windshield rake angle is much steeper than the sedan’s, at 62.3 degrees, and the rear window is nearly flat when viewed from the side.
