Subaru Facing Lawsuit Over Oil Use Problem

Vehicles using too much oil, causing costly repairs.

by on Jul.21, 2014

The 2014 Subaru Forester is one a few Subaru vehicles with oil usage problem, alleges a lawsuit.

Subaru of America is facing a lawsuit – that may become a class action – because of the amount of oil the company’s vehicles use.

The problem stems from the fact that in the opinion of some owners, the company’s vehicles use a lot of engine oil…and quickly. The result in some instances has been some pricey repairs due to the problem: repairs in the thousands of dollars.

The suit claims the vehicles “prematurely burn off and/or consume abnormal and excessive amounts of engine oil” and claims Subaru is unwilling to fix the problem. Subaru doesn’t believe there is a problem. (more…)

Subaru Plans More Hybrids, Battery Cars – Eventually

Despite first HEV, don’t expect more electric power anytime soon.

Subaru debuted its XV Crosstrek Hybrid at the New York Auto Show.

After a series of false starts, Subaru finally has its first gas-electric model, the XV Crosstrek Hybrid, making its formal debut at this week’s New York International Auto Show. Expect to see more hybrids, as well as an all-electric model, possibly even a plug-in hybrid model, the Japanese maker’s top U.S. executive told TheDetroitBureau.com – but not anytime soon.

Between consumer demand and regulatory requirements, Subaru is being pressed to expand its “electrification” effort, said Tom Doll, recently promoted to president of Subaru of America. But as with the effort that finally brought the Crosstrek to market, Subaru isn’t in a rush.

More good news for NY Auto Show-goers.

The 2013 Subaru Outback will formally debut at the NY Auto Show next week.

We almost don’t need to bother going to next week’s NY Auto Show.  Almost.  But while virtually everything planned for the media preview has already been previewed in advance there’s still nothing like checking out the sheet metal in person.

For now, though, enjoy these images of the latest offerings to break cover.  Subaru previously revealed the new XV CrossTrek.  Now, it’s providing pics of the new 2013 Legacy and Outback models, both getting moderately extensive updates.

News You Can Use!

But what may draw the closest attention is the fact that Subaru claims the 2013 Legacy will deliver segment-leading 32 mpg fuel economy.

Among other things, both updates will be offered with the maker’s new EyeSight system, a lower-cost way of providing such advanced safety systems as Adaptive Cruise Control, Vehicle Lane Departure Warnings and Pre-Collision Braking.
