FCA Set To Reveal All-Electric Pacifica Minivan at CES

Could be used in Google autonomous vehicle partnership.

by on Dec.12, 2016

Might the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid be getting a new purely battery-electric sibling? Rumor is the EV concept will debut at the Consumer Electronics Show.

For the moment, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles isn’t saying much about the concept vehicle it plans to unveil next month, but various sources suggest the Euro-American automaker will introduce a full battery-electric version of its new Pacifica minivan.

And, in an unusual step, the concept vehicle will make its debut at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, rather than at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The all-electric Chrysler Pacifica could wind up being used as part of an autonomous vehicle project pairing FCA and Silicon Valley giant Google.

Electrifying News!

Late to the battery-car party, FCA appears to be racing to catch up with key rivals, as well as upstarts like Tesla Motors and Chinese-funded Faraday Future. A report by the Bloomberg news service suggests Fiat Chrysler is also working on a pure battery-electric version of one of its Maserati sports cars. (more…)

Mercedes-Benz Teases Concept Van for Tokyo Motor Show

“Luxurious, autonomous and progressive.”

by on Oct.27, 2015

Mercedes pushes to extremes with a concept van coming to this year's Tokyo Motor Show.

In a market all-but owned by Japanese domestic manufacturers, foreign makers have largely ignored the Tokyo Motor Show in recent years. But Mercedes-Benz has decided to weigh in this time with a concept vehicle it calls, “a vision for future generations.”

A quick look at the accompanying teaser would suggest it’s just a minivan, but knowing Mercedes, we can expect a lot more than just a roomy interior, and will likely see the German maker pick up some of the themes it has touched on in recent times with other concepts such as the F 015 Luxury in Motion and the Intelligent Aerodynamic Automobile, or IAA, revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show last month.

What a Concept!

That is likely to translate into some intriguing new technologies, perhaps in terms of autonomous driving, but the Tokyo concept might also feature an advanced infotainment system, as well as an alternative powertrain.

But it’s the revised design likely to draw attention, especially among the young car buyers Lexus has been heavily targeting lately.
