New Audi S8 Plus Blends Supercar Performance, Premium Luxury Features

by on Aug.05, 2015

Audi bumps premium luxury performance up a notch with the addition of the new S8 Plus.

Audi is upping the ante in the premium luxury sedan market, taking aim at competitors like the Mercedes-AMG S63 with its new S8 Plus.

Claiming to deliver the highest power-to-weight in its segment, the new model punches out 596-horsepower from its overboosted V-8, enough to launch from 0 to 100 kmh (0 to 62 mph) in just 3.8 seconds, with a “derestricted” top speed of 189 mph.

The 2016 Audi S8 Plus also gets a number of performance-tuned features, including a sports exhaust system, and carbon fiber aero trim pieces like the front spoiler lip and side flaps.

First Drive:2013 Audi S8

A gold medal contender.

by on Feb.19, 2013

Audi delivers a new flagship with the 2013 S8.

The Auto Union was an amalgamation of four German automobile manufacturers, founded during the Great Depression. The company eventually evolved into present day Audi, and the four rings that adorn the grilles of the brand’s modern offerings represent the four original companies of Auto Union: Audi, Wanderer, DKW and Horch.

Each company brought specific technology to the Union, and today Audi is widely known for building All-Wheel Drive cars that feature safety, prodigious performance and superior technology – as well as for its benchmark interiors.

Stay on Top!

When you look at the four-ringed Audi grille, you can’t help but compare it to the Olympic symbol — five interlaced rings.  For 2013, just imagine that the Auto Union had an additional company–adding that fifth ring, as the all-new Audi S8 is truly a gold medal contender.

Audi, Ford, BMW Models Top Stolen List

Overall auto theft rate continues to dip.

by on Nov.08, 2011

Percentage wise, the most stolen car of 2009, the Audi S8.

You have your choice of good news or bad.  When it comes to stolen cars, the good news is that the auto theft rate continues to decline, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The bad news?  That might depend on what you own, especially if you park an Audi, Ford or BMW model in your driveway.

News You Can Use!

The top of the list is the Audi S8 which had a theft rate, according to NHTSA, of 8.81 per thousand in 2009 – the latest year for which data is available.  But the fed report is based on percentages, not raw numbers.  Audi only sold 227 of the S8s in the U.S. that year, and a grand total of 2 were stolen.

Using more conventional math reveals an entirely different picture, however, with more mainstream models like the Toyota Corolla, at the top of the list.

First Look: Audi A2 Concept

A good thing in a small package.

by on Sep.06, 2011

Audi's A2 Concept is one of a variety of production and prototype vehicles the maker will show in Frankfurt next week.

American motorists are used to equating price with pounds and inches.  The bigger and heavier the car the more it costs.  But Europeans have come to recognize that good things often come in small packages.  And with fuel prices surging to nearly $10 a gallon in some Continental markets there’s growing demand for small luxury cars like the Audi A2.

Measuring just over 12 feet, bumper-to-bumper, the German maker describes the four-seat A2 Concept debuting at the Frankfurt Motor Show next week as a “premium-class space concept.”  It’ll be a trick to pull that off considering the comparably-sized Mini Cooper fits four but just barely, despite its own innovative interior layout.

The Audi A2 Concept is just one of an assortment of new products and prototypes the maker plans to unveil at the biennial Frankfurt show.  It’s also got new performance versions of its main line-up, with the S6, S7 and S8 models set for introduction.  But clearly, Audi’s emphasis is on downsizing.  One of its most unusual show cars in years is the tandem two-seater, the Audi Urban Concept.

The A2 is a bit more practical and more likely to show up in the Audi line-up.

First Look: Audi S6, S7 and S8

Muscling in on BMW M territory.

by on Sep.01, 2011

The Audi S7 will make its debut at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show.

Audi is turning up the heat, taking aim at BMW’s vaunted M performance brand with the upcoming launch of three new S-Series models at this month’s Frankfurt Motor Show.

The S6, S7 and S8 offerings will not only introduce a new high-output twin-turbo V-8 but feature extensive use of aluminum to reduce weight and deliver even better performance.  But Audi claims they will also get as much as 25% better mileage than the previous generation of S-cars.

Stay in the Loop!

Both the 2012 Audi S6 and S7 models will share a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 punching out 420 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque.  According to Audi, the sedan will make 0 to 60 in 4.8 seconds, the S7 hatchback running a tenth of a second slower.
