Audi A9 Renderings Reveal New Grand Touring Coupe

Is this a Prologue of things to come?

by on Nov.17, 2014

If this rendering is any indication, Audi's new concept is going to be an impressive production car.

Just days before its scheduled debut at the Los Angeles Motor Show, Audi is giving us a peek at what’s to come when it unveils its new A9 model – which some German media anticipate will also be called the Prologue.

There’s been plenty of speculation about what Volkswagen’s luxury brand might have in store, and some creative imaginations have been at work in recent weeks creating their own ideas of what the A9 might look like. But if these official renderings carry over into the sheet metal, Audi is about to deliver one very big surprise.

What a Concept!

Rather than coming up with a coupe-like take on the familiar A8, or simply adding a few extra inches to the popular A7 four-door coupe, these sketches suggest the maker is going for something much more edgy, along the lines of a two-door grand touring coupe. (more…)

First Look: 2014 Audi A3 Cabriolet

Audi adds another option to its new entry-level line-up.

by on Sep.09, 2013

The Audi A3 Cabriolet for 2014 continues the makers expansion of its product line-up in the U.S.

We’re expecting to hear a lot about the Audi Sport Quattro Concept, already generating the buzz likely to make it one of the big hits of this week’s Frankfurt Motor Show. But let’s clear the air…the luxury maker has some other interesting offerings to show us, including the new 2014 Audi A3 Cabriolet.

It will become the latest in a growing line-up of entry-level body styles replacing the old A3 model, starting with the wagon we saw in Geneva earlier this year, followed by the A3 sedan developed specifically for the American market and unveiled at last spring’s NY Auto Show.

The fourth model in the new A3 range will stick with a conventional fabric roof that Audi promises can be opened and closed in a mere 18 seconds – and which will operate at modest speeds allowing a driver to get out of the rain without having to pull over. The top will be completely concealed, Audi adds, when retracted. (more…)

First Look: Audi A2 Concept

A good thing in a small package.

by on Sep.06, 2011

Audi's A2 Concept is one of a variety of production and prototype vehicles the maker will show in Frankfurt next week.

American motorists are used to equating price with pounds and inches.  The bigger and heavier the car the more it costs.  But Europeans have come to recognize that good things often come in small packages.  And with fuel prices surging to nearly $10 a gallon in some Continental markets there’s growing demand for small luxury cars like the Audi A2.

Measuring just over 12 feet, bumper-to-bumper, the German maker describes the four-seat A2 Concept debuting at the Frankfurt Motor Show next week as a “premium-class space concept.”  It’ll be a trick to pull that off considering the comparably-sized Mini Cooper fits four but just barely, despite its own innovative interior layout.

The Audi A2 Concept is just one of an assortment of new products and prototypes the maker plans to unveil at the biennial Frankfurt show.  It’s also got new performance versions of its main line-up, with the S6, S7 and S8 models set for introduction.  But clearly, Audi’s emphasis is on downsizing.  One of its most unusual show cars in years is the tandem two-seater, the Audi Urban Concept.

The A2 is a bit more practical and more likely to show up in the Audi line-up.
