Aston Martin Goes to Extreme With Electric Lagonda Vision Concept and Track Ready Valkyrie AMR Pro

Lagonda set to become all-electric sub-brand.

by on Mar.06, 2018

The Lagonda's modest exterior conceals the Vision Concept's unexpectedly large interior package.

This year’s Geneva Motor Show is going to extremes, from environmentally friendly EVs to exotic performance vehicles. And perhaps nowhere is that more apparent than at the Aston Martin stand where two debuts cover both ends of that spectrum.

The British marque’s Valkyrie AMR Pro is a track-only version of the 1,000-plus horsepower Valkyrie hypercar. The Lagonda Vision Concept, meanwhile, reveals Aston Martin’s plan to not only revive the once popular Lagonda nameplate but transform it into a zero-emissions sub-brand.

Geneva News!

“Lagonda exists to challenge (conventional) thinking,” said Aston Martin President and Chief Executive Officer, Andy Palmer, who noted that the show car also previews a new design language that will “potentially” return on two Lagonda models planned to reach market by 2023.

Aston Martin Going 100% Hybrid

The new Aston Martin DB11.

Best known for sleek sports cars like the new DB11, Aston Martin is plugging into alternative power, the British brand’s CEO telling TheDetroitBureau.com that all of its products will be offered with hybrid powertrains in the near future, while as much as a quarter of its line-up will go fully electric.

That shift reflects, in part, growing pressure from regulators around the world, even Britain now laying out what could be a forced shift away from internal combustion. But Chief Executive Andy Palmer stressed that Aston says that won’t necessarily be a bad thing for its buyers as it will use hybrid technology as much to boost performance as improve fuel economy.

Electrifying News!

An example of that will come with the arrival of the Valkyrie, the exotic hyper-car Aston unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show this year. Described by Palmer in an interview this week as “a symbol of our company, a symbol of what we can do,” the Valkyrie will use a Formula One-style KERS hybrid system to deliver over 1,000 horsepower, making it one of the most powerful vehicles offered on the retail market.

F1-based Aston Martin Valkyrie Set to Punch Out “At Least” 1,000 HP

Supercar set to top “range” of new, mid-engine models.

by on Mar.08, 2017

The Aston Martin Valkyrie takes the British brand into a new realm of performance.

Aston Martin is ending its long product drought in a big way, as it is demonstrating at this year’s Geneva Motor Show, starting with a F1-derived hybrid hypercar that will usher in an assortment of new mid-engine models, the maker’s CEO tells TheDetroitBureau.com.

Named for the Norse angels who carried fallen warriors off the battlefield, the Aston Martin Valkyrie is the product of an alliance with Red Bull Advanced Technologies. It’s also the latest in a series of extreme machines from the British maker that, since the debut of the original Vantage in 1951, have used “V” names to stand out from the rest of the Aston line-up.

Auto Show News!

With its bubble cockpit and oversized wheel wells, the new model, codenamed AM-RB 001, will be the most powerful model in Aston’s history. Though final numbers have yet to be released, Aston CEO Andy Palmer said the hypercar’s final output “has to be at least 1,000 horsepower.”

Aston's new Valkyrie is the latest in a series of exotic "V' cars dating back to 1951.

While it’s not meant to carry you off to the great beyond, Aston Martin is promising buyers will get the ride of their life with the new hypercar it is pulling together as part of an alliance with Red Bull Advanced Technologies.

Making its debut this week at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, the Aston Martin Valkyrie is the latest in a series of extreme machines from the British maker that, since the debut of the original Vantage in 1951, have used “V” names to stand out from the rest of the Aston line-up.

Auto Show News!

We’ll have to wait a day for the full specs on the Valkyrie, which is known inside Aston Martin by its codename, AM-RB 001. But we can expect it to deliver a significant upgrade from what the high performance brand is already offering – including the new DB11.
