Mercedes Ramps Up Performance With E43 AMG

AMG light package set to debut in New York later this month.

by on Mar.11, 2016

The 2017 Mercedes-AMG E43 will make its first appearance at this month's NY Auto Show.

We’ve barely had time to consider the mainstream versions of the next-generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class but the German maker is already rolling out the first of what will be several AMG editions.

Part of a new line-up of what might be dubbed “AMG Light” offerings, the 396-horsepower 2017 Mercedes-AMG E43 puts a premium not only on safety but an extensive array of new safety technologies. That’s in keeping with the strategy of launching breakthroughs with the big S-Class and then going even further with each subsequent model that follows.

The Last Word!

“The new AMG E43 offers impressive driving dynamics coupled with cutting-edge efficiency. Twin turbocharging, features adopted from motorsport and characteristic AMG design immediately indicate to our customers that the new E-Class from AMG offers pure Driving Performance coupled with cutting-edge technology and intense emotion,” said Tobias Moers, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.

Mercedes Pumps Up Performance with AMG C63

“Power spectrum” runs up to 503 hp.

by on Sep.24, 2014

Mercedes will deliver up to 503 hp with the new AMG C63 - along with 32% better fuel economy.

Mercedes-Benz wants to pump you up – at least if you’re looking to buy one of its new C-class models. With the addition of the AMG C63 line next year, you’ll be able to order a package that tips the scales at more than 500 horsepower.

That’s a far cry from the old Baby Benz, but the latest C-Class is larger and far more luxurious than ever, undergoing a number of significant changes for the 2015 model-year, as has already reported. The AMG treatment takes it up a significant notch, both in terms of features and performance.

Your Inside Source!

What Mercedes describes as the “pinnacle” of the C-Class spectrum will be powered by an all-new biturbo 4.0-liter V-8. It’s a derivative of the engine that will be powering the maker’s new AMG GT sports car. Officially set to debut at the Paris Motor Show in little more than a week, the C63 will be offered with a “power spectrum” of choices.

Like other German carmakers, Mercedes-Benz has put down a large bet on diesel, rolling out diesel-powered vehicles at a fast clip to meet the American demand for style and fuel economy.

As part of its diesel campaign, Mercedes elected to install its new four-cylinder diesel engine in its GLK sports utility vehicle. The same diesel engine will also be made available in the revamped Mercedes Benz E-Class sedan, starting in September. The first gasoline-powered version of the new E-Class is due in showrooms this month.

As it stands, the new four-cylinder, Mercedes-designed and Mercedes-built turbo diesel, which is the first four-cylinder diesel Mercedes-Benz has made available in North America, seems to fit perfectly into the GLK. The clatter that seems to have plagued the diesel engine in the past was almost non-existent at ignition, when the vehicle was idling or while driving at various speeds on country roads or on the freeway. It wasn’t exactly whisper quiet, but it was close.

Mercedes Moving to All-Wheel-Drive with AMG

Focus on performance – but opens doors to Snowbelt markets.

by on Apr.05, 2013

The new Mercedes-Benz CLA45 helps usher in a new AWD strategy for the German maker's AMG brand.

With the launch of its updated 2014 E-Class, CLS and CLA performance models, Mercedes-Benz will begin a dramatic shift at its AMG brand-within-a-brand. Going forward, virtually all of the performance division’s products will come with standard all-wheel-drive.

The strategy should help expand the appeal of models like the 2014 E63 AMG and new CLA45 AMG in snowy northern regions where all-wheel-drive has become a virtual must for buyers.

News from a Source You Can Trust!

But by putting as much emphasis on performance as cold weather traction, Mercedes is betting it will also further enhance demand for AMG models in their traditional “smile state” markets.

“It should widen our footprint,” suggested Rob Moran, manager of the AMG line for Mercedes-Benz USA.

First Look: Infiniti G37 Convertible IPL

Mixing style and performance.

by on Oct.01, 2010

A second model joins Infiniti's new performance line-up, IPL.

Automotive executives aren’t prone to handing out compliments to the competition, but when the subject turns to the Infiniti G-Series, you’re almost certain to hear kind words.

There’s little doubt that the striking design of the latest Infiniti entry-line has done a lot to revitalize the brand especially as Nissan’s luxury division has added more variants, including a convertible and the sporty G37 Coupe.

But sporty really does bring to mind the idea of performance, something the G-Series needed a bit more of, Infiniti officials admitted, over the summer, as they pulled the wraps off the first IPL model.  Short for Infiniti Performance Line, it debuted on the G37 Coupe.

News Now!

And, at the time, Infiniti General Manager Ben Poore broadly hinted, “More to come.  You’ll see IPL (variants) across the Infiniti line-up…where appropriate.”

The maker is keeping its word, introducing the second model to the brand-within-a-brand in the form of the new G37 Convertible IPL.

Sneak Peek: 2010 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG

4 doors, 7 gears, 518 horsepower.

by on Apr.09, 2009

What part of 518 hp and 186 mph don't you understand?

What part of 518 hp and 186 mph don't you understand? Oh, and the 7-speed gearbox shifts in just 100 milliseconds.

Think of the possibilities provided by 7 gears and 518 horsepower.  (Of course, it helps not to think about the possible fines and points on your license.)

The new Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG is the most powerful model to ever wear the German maker’s midsize badge.  In fact, Mercedes officials claim it will outperform the smaller, lighter C63 AMG.

With the delicious brap of its big, 6.3-liter V-8 echoing through the halls of Jacob Javits Center, AMG President Volker Mornhinweg drove a pre-production prototype of the E63 out for its turn in the spotlight, Wednesday – one of an array of new Mercedes products that are staging their premier at the 2009 New York International Auto Show.

The E63 stands in sharp contrast to the rest of the new offerings, primarily a mix of high-mileage diesels, as well as the German marque’s first hybrid-electric vehicle, the ML450.
