Mercedes Planning Flood of New Compact Models

Maker still debating which will come to the U.S. market.

The newly updated Mercedes-Benz GLA 250 4Matic made its debut in Detroit Sunday night.

Few automakers have added more new models in shorter order than Mercedes-Benz, the German company take aim at virtually every possible market niche.

But Mercedes officials think there’s still a few gaps in the line-up, notably at the lower end of the spectrum, and that means we could see a sizable increase in compact and smaller offerings, though not all the additions will make it across the Atlantic.

“Our compact car family will grow from five to eight members in the near future,” said Britta Seeger, the board member who was recently appointed head of Mercedes-Benz global marketing and sales, during an appearance at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Kia Floats Like a Butterfly, Stings Like a Bee with New Stinger Sport Sedan

Kia generated a bit of excitement last night with the debut of its new Stinger sport sedan.

If there’s anyone left who thinks Kia is all about mundane econoboxes they’re in for a shock when they get a good look at the Korean carmaker’s new Stinger sport sedan.

The fastback is based on the wildly popular Kia GT that made its original debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2011, the work of Kia’s design chief – and now vice chairman of both Kia and sibling Hyundai – Peter Schreyer.

Offered with a choice of turbo-four or twin-turbo V-6 options, the new five-door gran turismo debuting at the North American International Auto Show promises to be not just one of Kia’s most visually distinctive models, but also its fastest. It will also be one of the automaker’s most lavishly equipped offerings when it hits the road later this year.

GMC Teases New Acadia Ahead of NAIAS Debut

GMC teases the major makeover of the Acadia SUV it has coming for 2017.

With the first media preview at the North American International Auto Show just days away, automakers are releasing an array of teaser images to get everyone excited about what’s to come. That includes GMC which has sent us this close-up of the back end of the 2017 Acadia.

It can’t come soon enough for General Motors’ truck division. Along with sibling utes, the Buick Enclave and Chevrolet Traverse, the GMC Acadia has gone without a significant update for a decade, an unexpectedly long time in an industry where change is coming at an ever-faster pace.

For 2017, the GMC Acadia will migrate to an all-new platform that will be smaller than the one now in use – and which will be shared with a new Chevrolet model to slot above the current Equinox line.
