Spy Shot: 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe

Fewer doors, more fun?

by on Jan.29, 2016

An "informed" rendering of the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe.

We got our first look at the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this month, and while the German maker was planning to make us wait to see the 2-door version of the midsize line, our friends at Topspeed caught a glimpse of the E-Coupe and offered to share it with readers of TheDetroitBureau.com.

Despite the heavy camouflage, there are enough obvious details for the rendering that opens things up here. Under the mesh grille, the E-Coupe’s front end is expected to be a virtual clone of what we’ve already seen on the new E-Class sedan. That includes the distinctive, almost cat’s eye LED headlamps framing the new, oversized Mercedes grille.

The sedan features a more curvaceous roof than the classic Mercedes sedan, but the E-Class Coupe gets a truly curvaceous roofline, with unique character lines and a different quarter window. The bottom line is a look that is decidedly more sporty than the four-door model, as well as the outgoing E-Coupe.

by on Jan.05, 2016

The 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class was set to be unveiled in Detroit next week ... until these pictures were leaked.

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the maker’s most significant model, the anchor in a rapidly expanding line-up. But it’s also the oldest model, something the German maker is soon set to remedy with the debut of an all-new version at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit next week.

Mercedes has been banging the drum, aiming to build interest in the premiere of the new sedan, which will take place Sunday night, the day before the first official press day at the NAIAS. It has already released interior shots and now, it seems, the helpful folks at German website Auto-Presse have given us a look at the exterior, as well.

The 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is chock full of new technology that makes the vehicle safer as well as more comfortable.

When it’s time to introduce a new model, many automakers attempt to whet the appetites of fans with dark pictures showing only a hint of what’s to come. Mercedes decided to turn that approach inside out, showing off the interior of the new E-Class ahead of its debut in Detroit next month.

What can Mercedes aficionados expect? A simple design featuring more technology, but fewer buttons to use it. The maker stuffs the new iteration of the E-Class with a suite of new technology that includes car-to-car communications, the ability to unlock your car using your smartphone and remote parking.

Mercedes Lurches Toward Autonomy with New E-Class

German maker aims to relieve stress of driving.

by on Jul.10, 2015

Soon the Mercedes E-Class will come with an updated driver-assistance system that makes the vehicle nearly autonomous.

Drivers of the next generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class due out next spring will be able to travel at speeds of more than 100 miles per hour, using the car’s automated driving features, according to technical papers released by Daimler AG, which emphasized the the new driver assistance features in the car will increase the comfort and relieve stress.

Based on an enhanced version of the Intelligent Drive system, which Mercedes-Benz has rolled out on the current E-Class and the new S-Class, the new system prepared for the 2017 E-Class will come with a Distance Pilot Distronic function. It automatically maintains the correct distance from vehicles in front of it by adjusting the car’s higher desired speed to that of a slower-moving vehicle ahead before accelerating back up to the desired speed once the way ahead is clear again – it can also follow traffic ahead in its lane at speeds from 0 to 120 mph, Mercedes-Benz said in the information it released to the press.

Despite active longitudinal and lateral guidance with significantly enhanced steering assistance, which gives the vehicle the ability to essentially drive itself in short spurts, the next level Intelligent Drive remains a semi-automated system in which the driver’s hands still need to be on the steering wheel. Midsize sedan set to debut in Detroit next January.

The replacement for the current Mercedes-Benz E-Class (shown here) will debut in January.

The next-generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class line, set to debut in Detroit next January, will take “another big step” closer to full autonomous driving, a senior company source tells TheDetroitBureau.com.

Among other things, the midsize model will be able to drive down a freeway hands-free, while also handling low-speed, stop-and-go traffic all but fully autonomously.

The Last Word!

“It’s definitely going a step ahead” of what is currently offered by any vehicle on the road, said the Mercedes executive, who asked not to be identified by name. Several other Mercedes insiders confirmed the plans for the new E-Class line, which will be unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January, with sales set to begin a few months later.
