GMC is taking things a step farther with its new Acadia: the new version has a model that can go off-road.

In good times and bad, General Motors sport-utility vehicles have carried the company and satisfied a legion of loyal customers.

But GM has tinkered with the some of its cherished formulas as it rolls out the new 2017 GMC Acadia, which has lost 700 pounds become smaller all the way around so it compete head-to-head with vehicles such as the Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot, Nissan Pathfinder and Ford Explorer and even the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

In recent years, the older version of the Acadia has served as the cornerstone for the GMC product line, meaning GM is gambling the smaller, lighter version with its fresh styling, luxury appointment and latest technology can make a space for itself in a crowed but popular corners of the market. GMC is taking things a step farther with its new Acadia: the new verion has a model that can go off-road.

The boom in truck sales across the United States has helped transform GMC in a retail powerhouse.

“We have a lot of momentum behind,” noted Tony DiSalle, U.S. vice president of sales and marketing. “We have the highest average transaction price of any no-premium brand in the industry.”

The success of GMC’s upscale Denali sub-brand is now 30% of the GMC sales and has helped boost GMC transaction prices, he noted. More success is expected in 2016, which has gotten off to a promising start with GMC sales up 2.5% through April. (more…)

GMC is taking things a step farther with its new Acadia: the new verion has a model that can go off-road.

The battle for superiority in the luxury crossover segment just got a little more fierce with the introduction of the new 2017 GMC Acadia at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

GMC took some chances with the new Acadia with two new powertrains – one for the fuel economy conscious and one for those who want some oomph – as well as introducing a new “off-road” model.

GMC teases the major makeover of the Acadia SUV it has coming for 2017.

With the first media preview at the North American International Auto Show just days away, automakers are releasing an array of teaser images to get everyone excited about what’s to come. That includes GMC which has sent us this close-up of the back end of the 2017 Acadia.

It can’t come soon enough for General Motors’ truck division. Along with sibling utes, the Buick Enclave and Chevrolet Traverse, the GMC Acadia has gone without a significant update for a decade, an unexpectedly long time in an industry where change is coming at an ever-faster pace.

For 2017, the GMC Acadia will migrate to an all-new platform that will be smaller than the one now in use – and which will be shared with a new Chevrolet model to slot above the current Equinox line.
