Volkswagen Issues Stop-Sale Order for 2015 Golf, GTI

Steering problem forces maker to halt sales.

by on Jul.11, 2014

Volkswagen issued a stop-sale order on its 2015 GTI in the U.S. and Canada.

Volkswagen issued a stop-sale order and recall of 2015 GTI and Golf models in the U.S. and Canada to fix a problem with the vehicle’s steering system.

A stop-sale order means that dealers may not sell the affected vehicle until the problem has been fixed. It is usually accompanied by a recall, as it is in this case.

The Word is "Free"!

In this case, the front stabilizer link fasteners could potentially work themselves loose, causing a loss of steering control on the vehicle. Volkswagen is replacing the links on 705 vehicles on U.S. dealer lots, and an additional 108 cars in Canada. (more…)

First Drive: 2015 Volkswagen Golf and GTI

Worth the long wait.

by on May.29, 2014

The U.S. version of the VW GTI arrives about a year after its European launch.

It’s been a frustrating year for Volkswagen fans, the automaker forcing them to watch the roll-out of its all-new, seventh-generation Golf in Europe and much of the rest of the world while waiting for the Golf and GTI models to make the jump across the Atlantic.

The all-new 2015 VW Golf and its sporty spin-off, the GTI, certainly seem to have everything going for them.  They’re bigger, roomier, more visually appealing, and while more powerful, they’re also more fuel-efficient, whatever your powertrain choice.

Volkswagen to Reveal U.S. Golf at NY Auto Show

But U.S. buyers will still have to wait.

The VW Golf was named European Car of the Year last week. Americans will have to wait til 2014 to see if they agree.

American motorists will finally get a good look at the new Volkswagen Golf when it makes its formal debut at the New York International Auto Show later this month. But the unveiling – which comes a half-year after the seventh-generation hatchback debuted in Europe – will still be little more than a tease.

VW doesn’t plan to actual start selling the newest version of the Golf here until the first half of 2014, it reconfirms, the maker waiting until it can shift production from Germany to a plant it is updating in Puebla, Mexico.

We Deliver!

In an advanced press release, VW promises that. “Three different versions of the Golf will debut under the lights of New York City’s Javits Center.” That includes the turbocharged Golf TSI, the “oil-sipping” TDI diesel, and the “hotter” GTI.

What’s notably absent from the list is the so-called GolfVariant, the wagon that VW introduced at the Geneva Motor Show just last week.
