GM Holds the Line on Trucks

Maker keeps Silverado, Sierra prices at 2013 levels

Pricing for the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado is unchanged from 2013.

Truck buyers in the market for a new Chevrolet Silverado or GMC Sierra got some good news today as General Motors it announced that base prices for the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks will remain unchanged from 2013.

In addition to the prices, the fuel-economy ratings and performance figures for truck siblings also stay the same. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price for the new 2014 Silverado regular cab will start at $24,585, and pricing for the regular cab GMC Sierra starts at $25,085. Both include a $995 destination freight charge.

The price for the 2014 Silverado regular cab, which starts production this summer, will include the more powerful, more efficient EcoTec3 engine, six-speed automatic transmission, a quieter cab with an all-new interior and four-wheel disc brakes with Duralife rotors as well as a new bed with standard box rail protectors.

GM “Fundamentally” in Favor of Expanding US Diesel Line-Up

Expect to see GM add a diesel to the powertrain options for the light-duty 2014 Chevrolet Silverado.

With its first light-duty diesel set to debut in a manner of months, senior General Motors officials are giving clear indications that they’re ready to launch additional applications of the high-mileage technology, including a diesel for the next-generation Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups.

After years sitting on the sidelines, 2014 could be the year that diesels finally become a viable option for automakers struggling to meet tough need government fuel economy mandates.  Among the various makers that plan to launch or expand their diesel offerings are Mazda, Ford, Volkswagen, Audi and, soon, General Motors.

“There is, fundamentally, a place for diesel here,” said GM President Mark Reuss, during an interview following the preview of the completely redesigned 2014 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups. The executive stressed that he is “personally” in favor of adding more of the so-called oil-burners to GM’s North American line-up.

GM Reveals New 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra Pickups

The completely redesigned 2014 Chevrolet Silverado makes its pyrotechnic debut.

Timing is everything, goes the old adage, and General Motors is betting that proves true as it gives the world a first look at its new 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra full-size pickups.

Time has been working against the industry giant in recent months, sales sliding precipitously for the outgoing models – the oldest of the domestic full-size trucks.  But with signs of an improving economy further buoyed by the latest housing data, GM officials are confident the new Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra models will hit the street at a perfect time to ride that rebound.

“There is nothing more core to our business than trucks,” noted Mark Reuss, president of GM’s U.S. operations, during a preview of the two trucks at a movie soundstage in the Detroit suburbs. “And we think we’re timing this very well.”
