Honda Offers Siri Integration

Automaker is first of several expected to pair Apple's voice assistant with cars.

by on Feb.01, 2013

Honda will offer integration of Apple's Siri as a dealer-installed option in three vehicles starting later this year.

Honda will integrate Apple’s Siri intelligent assistant into its vehicles as an option for customers who own iPhones.

Siri’s is a potentially significant development for an auto industry where carmakers are scrambling to equip vehicles with the next big thing in infotainment systems that can both limit driver distractions while allowing motorists to have access to their media and friends.

Ford has said that its Sync voice-activated system has driven sales of its cars. It has also triggered a wave of copycat systems, such as Toyota’s EnForm and Cadillac’s Cue. Analysts are now watching to see if Siri integration in cars will become a prime purchasing factor for buyers.

First Drive: 2013 Honda Accord

Gunfight in the Midsize Corral.

by on Sep.10, 2012

Honda hopes to land back on top of the midsize segment with the 2013 Accord.

Be prepared for one of the nastiest gunfights the auto industry has seen in years.  The 2013 model-year will bring the launch of an assortment of new entries into the always-competitive midsize sedan segment, including an all-new Ford Fusion, Chevrolet Malibu and Nissan Altima.  And now comes the new 2013 Honda Accord.

Once the dominant player in the midsize market, Honda has had to settle for second, for much of the last decade, chasing the Toyota Camry.  But with all the new sheet metal, leadership is up for grabs.  Nissan has openly declared its desire to topple the midsize king-of-the-hill.  And you can bet that’s Honda’s goal, as well.

“It’s playing out like an arms race,” Honda product planner Vicki Popponi said during a media preview of the new Accord. And Honda is going to need to deliver the big guns.  The maker took a critical drubbing when it launched an all-new Accord, two years ago, and has had some serious sales setbacks with other recent models including the Insight, CrossTour and CR-Z.  So, there’s little room for error with the 2013 Honda Accord.

Honda initially will offer three new powertrain packages with the 2013 Accord - a fourth to follow.

Honda Goes for Gold With 2013 Accord

But settles for silver in mileage race.

by on Sep.05, 2012

Honda will offer an array of new powertrains for the 2013 Accord, including a first-ever hybrid.

Honda has finally lifted the covers on its all-new Accord sedan, a vehicle that is likely to be the Japanese brand’s most important product in decades.  And Honda officials insist they won’t make the same mistakes they made when they introduced the all-new, and oft-criticized Civic model two years ago.

The 2013 Honda Accord, nonetheless, enters a crowded midsize market that is experiencing a glut of new and seriously competitive entries from Detroit, European and Asian makers, and Honda will have little room for error.

Be In the Know!

So, as it goes for the gold, will the new Accord suffer having to settle for silver when it comes to fuel economy?  Its new 4-cylinder powertrain – part of the brand’s new Earth Dreams technology – will deliver an impressive 27 miles per gallon in the city, 36 on the highway, and 30 mpg combined – but that’s one mpg behind the new Nissan Altima, another all-new-for-2013 midsize sedan.

“We have the opportunity to invent our future” with the launch of the 2013 Accord, Honda’s top American executive, John Mendel, told

First Look: 2013 Honda Accord Sedan

Shorter, roomier, more fuel-efficient.

by on Aug.08, 2012

Honda releases the first images of the production 2013 Accord sedan.

After an unexpectedly long wait, Honda is finally giving the world a first look at the completely updated, 2013 Accord sedan.

Until now, Honda had provided only a hint of what was coming in the form of a coupe concept that debuted all the way back in January at the Detroit Auto Show — generating mixed reviews for its relatively conservative looks largely unchanged from the previous coupe.

The production sedan revealed today “doesn’t scream and shout,” said Honda’s U.S. product chief Vicki Poponi, though she also insisted the 2013 Honda Accord is “the most sculpted and the most dynamic Accord yet,” following Honda’s design dictum, “man maximum, machine minimum.”

The design is sleeker and less extreme than some past updates, with a more coupe-like roofline that reflects today’s industry vogue. The maker also claims the 2013 Honda Accord will be notably more fuel-efficient than the model it replaces.

Honda Polishes its Environmental Credentials

"Earth Dreams" technology to debut on new Accord.

by on Jun.29, 2012

The production version of the 2013 Honda Accord -- the Coupe Concept shown here -- will introduce the maker's new Earth Dreams technology.

Honda, looking to regain some of the momentum it has lost over the past couple of years, plans to introduce its “Earth Dreams” technology this coming fall on its new 2013 Honda Accord.

Honda officials told that the Earth Dreams package on the new Accord will include a new 2.4 liter, 4-cylinder engine with direct injection and a new continuously variable (or CVT) transmission, according to Steve Center, American Honda’s vice president overseeing environmental business development.

Center also said a plug-in electric version of the Accord will debut in early 2013 as part of the maker’s overall strategy of reducing CO2 emissions.

We Brake for News!

The first maker to launch a hybrid model in the U.S. – its original Insight model – Honda has since taken a back seat, in terms of its environmental image, to Toyota which produces the Prius, the world’s best-selling gas-electric model.  Recent Honda hybrids, including a new Insight and the CR-Z, have failed to gain the market traction the maker had anticipated.

Details Leak on New 2013 Honda Accord

Dealer discloses key updates -- including hybrid secrets.

by on Jun.21, 2012

So far, Honda has only shown this concept Accord Coupe, but details are beginning to leak out.

The auto industry usually isn’t good at keeping secrets, though Honda has been struggling to keep a wrap on plans for the critical 2013 update of the midsize Accord.  But details have begun to leak out, including some recent spy shots and, now, a list of ’13 updates that one of the Japanese maker’s dealers is revealing in a press release of its own.

Apparently, the folks at Tuscon’s Chapman Honda have decided that the best way to move the outgoing Accords on their lot is by giving customers a preview of the new car.  That’s a sharp shift from traditional strategy.  Usually, retailers like to pretend nothing’s coming before they clear out inventory.

“We’re confident that drivers will find that the 2013 Accord is a very well-balanced product…whether they’re talking about interior packaging, content of the vehicle, or the fuel economy,” said Chapman Honda General Manager Neb Yonas in a press release.

Among the details provided by the dealership, it appears the 2013 Honda Accord will include:
