First Official Pics: 2011 Cadillac CTSv Coupe

Set for NAIAS debut next week.

by on Jan.05, 2010

The v-version of Cadillac's new 2011 CTS Coupe has the marque's most powerful engine ever.

The pics make it official.  As TheDetroitBureau.com first reported, more than a month ago, Cadillac will introduce a new member of its performance v-Series line-up at next week’s North American International Auto Show, the CTSv Coupe.

The base Coupe hasn’t even hit the road yet, but the photos reveal some notable differences between the so called “base” car and performance version, starting with the chromed mesh grille that reportedly doubles the 2-door’s intake air volume.  You’ll also notice the raised center of the hood, which provides clearance for the supercharger, as well as dedicated new front and rear fascias.  The 2011 Cadillac CTSv Coupe’s rear track is an inch wider than the CTS sedan’s, giving it a more aggressive stance.

Like the standard-edition Cadillac CTS Coupe, the v-model’s exhaust is centered inside the rear fascia, but with unique twin outlets. The CTSv Coupe rolls out on 19-inch cast aluminum wheels, either painted or polished, with Michelin Pilot Sport 2 performance tires.  There are Brembo brakes at all four corners – six-piston calipers up front, four-piston calipers in the rear.

Supercars!

But what really matters is the fast-beating heart of the car, and the Cadillac CTSv Coupe shares its engine with the CTSv sedan, a 556-horsepower, supercharged V8.  The 6.2-liter powerplant makes a blinding 551 pound-feet of torque and is the most powerful engine ever offered by Cadillac.  The maker claims a 0 to 60 time of just 3.9 seconds, which puts it into supercar range.

The 2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe might be aimed at a low-volume niche, but it will be critical for the brand. And now, a high-performance v-Series Coupe is in the works.

Even with the new CTS Coupe still a half-year away from production, Cadillac is planning to add a second, high-performance version of the edgy 2-door.

TheDetroitBureau.com has learned that a v-Series version of the Cadillac CTS Coupe will be unveiled at the North American International Auto Show, in Detroit, this coming January.  It will further expand the number of variants off the CTS platform that serves as the primary source of volume for the luxury marque.

When asked to confirm the plans, Cadillac General Manager Bryan Nesbitt responded, “absolutely.”  Specific details will be held until the Detroit Auto Show, in mid-January.  If the Coupe v is anything like the CTSv, however, it would be equipped with a supercharged, Corvette-derived LSA 6.2-liter V-8, which makes a jaw-dropping 556 horsepower and 551 lb-feet of torque.

The sportiest member of the entry-luxury line-up, the 2011 CTS Coupe, will make its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show, next week.

You’ll have to wait until next week, and catch a flight to the West Coast, if you want to see the new 2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe in all its sheet metal glory, but here’s a good first look at the sporty 2-door that will join Caddy’s expanding entry-luxury line-up next year.

The fourth version of the CTS line will make its debut during the Los Angeles Auto Show press preview, next week.

The original CTS, which ushered in the General Motors division’s so-called Art & Science design theme, was completely revised two years ago.  Now, Caddy is taking a cue from its import competition and aggressively expanding the list of CTS variants.  First came the high-performance CTSv, then a wagon – which is expected to give the brand more traction abroad – and now the 2-door, which initially debuted as a well-received concept vehicle.
