Bugatti Commemorates 110 Years with Chiron Sport “ans 110 Bugatti”

Covered in Blue Steel carbon fiber and steel, it hits 260 mph.

by on Apr.16, 2019

The Bugatti Chiron ans 110 Bugatti is one of 20. The limited edition racer marks the company's 110th anniversary.

If a 25-year anniversary is silver and 50 years is gold, what’s 110? Bugatti!

Perhaps more precisely the limited-edition Chiron Sport “110 ans Bugatti,” the specialty $4 million racer to commemorate the founding of the company in 1909 by Ettore Bugatti as well as the country where the company was created. The car is designed to “serve as inspiration for a company that follows its founder’s spirit.”

The limited-edition Chiron Sport “110 Ans Bugatti” also emphasizes the company’s French heritage with an exterior livery, if you will, in the tricolor, “Le Bleu-Blanc-Rouge.” That scheme rolls over to some parts of the interior as well. Just 20 of the cars will be built. (more…)

It’s Official! Really! GM to Reveal Mid-Engine C8 Corvette in July

GM President Mark Reuss releases barely camo’d pic.

by on Apr.12, 2019

The mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette is finally out in the open and set for a formal July reveal.

To misappropriate a quote by Humphrey Bogart from “The Maltese Falcon,” “It’s the stuff dreams are made of.”

For decades, General Motors has sniffed off rumors that it was developing the sort of mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette that proponents said was needed to turn the classic American sports car into a true world-beater. In recent years, rumors have been rampant, along with sightings of prototypes caught with less and less camouflage. But, time and again, the automaker has refused to comment or commit.

Breaking Product News!

Until now, that is. Late Thursday, GM President Mark Reuss put his official stamp on the clearest image yet of the C8. Specifics are scarce, but for the two most important details. His tweet declared it “The Next Generation Corvette,” and announced that the C8 will make its official debut on July 18, 2019.

by on Apr.11, 2019

Only 50 of the Audi R8 V10 Decennium models will be brought to the U.S.

Meanwhile, the German automaker is adding a new, limited-edition model, the Audi R8 V10 Decennium, that also will take the two-seater into never before seen price territory, at $216,245 a full $19,095 more than the V10 Performance edition.

Auto Show News!

“Each generation of the R8 brings to the road know-how acquired on the racetrack and from the legacy of Audi endurance racing,” the automaker said in a statement introducing the 2020 R8 line-up. “This year is no different.” (more…)

by on Apr.02, 2019

An image snapped at an Alfa Romeo event offers a hint of what the upcoming GTV will look like.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has big plans for the Alfa Romeo brand, as it announced last June during a meeting in Milan to unveil its next five-year plan.

By 2022, the Italian marque is expected to have at least seven different models in its showrooms, including three crossovers. But don’t think Alfa is abandoning the classic sedans and coupes it has long been known for, as this leaked image indicates.

Breaking News!

According to the Club Alfa website which initially published the image, this is the Alfa GTV coupe, one of two extreme performance models that will rely on some form of hybrid powertrain to punch out a whopping 600 horsepower.

Topping 1,000: An Ultra-Exclusive Club Continues to Expand

This year’s Geneva Motor Show brought an array of new entries.

by on Mar.11, 2019

The Pininfarina is one of an assortment of 1,000+ hp models that debuted in Geneva.

This month’s Geneva Motor Show brought the debut of dozens of new models, from little city cars all the way up to mega-million dollar exotics. It also brought several new entries into one of the automotive industry’s most exotic clubs: vehicles topping 1,000 horsepower.

It’s been 14 years since the original Bugatti Veyron 16.4 captured a spot in the Guinness World Records by becoming the first model to deliver four-figure power. With the debut of models like the Aston Martin AM-RB 003, Hispano Suiza Carmen, Koenigsegg Jesko and Pinfarina Battista in Geneva last week the number of models topping the 1,000 hp mark is now over a dozen, with several other models reportedly in the works.

Performance News!

As you’d expect, the price tag for these products is equally astronomical. A special one-off version of the Bugatti Chiron last week was announced at $19 million. But, if you have the cash and access to a long stretch of pavement, here’s what you might want to check out:

10 Best from the 2019 Geneva Motor Show

Choices range from city cars to super cars.

by on Mar.07, 2019

This year's Geneva Motor Show was smaller than in year's past, but there were plenty of debuts for the press to cover.

It may be snowy up in the hills outside Geneva, but things were decidedly green inside Palexpo, the sprawling convention center that serves as home to the city’s annual auto show. The event wasn’t quite as busy this year, a number of automakers choosing to sit things out, as has been the growing industry trend. That said, there were some significant debuts during the Geneva Motor Show media preview.

And green really was the word, manufacturers rolling out more than a score of environmentally friendly products. That included quite a few all-electric models, but also hybrids, plug-ins and even a breakthrough gas engine.

Auto Show News!

As always, Geneva covered a broad spectrum of product segments, from little city cars, such as the Honda e, all the way up to hypercars like the 1,900 horsepower Pininfarina Battista. Here’s a look at 10 of our favorites among the new products that debuted at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show: (more…)

Pininfarina’s Battista EV Quietly Punches Out 1,900 HP

But don’t expect to get that 280 miles range when you’re pushing 217 mph.

by on Mar.06, 2019

The Automobili Pininfarina Battista makes its debut at the Geneva Motor Show.

There are plenty of skeptics when it comes to battery-electric vehicles, but resistance seems to be fading among serious performance fans, and a quick tour of this week’s Geneva Motor Show may help explain why.

Among the fastest and most powerful cars making their debut, the majority use some form of battery-based technology, including plug-ins like the Aston Martin AM RB 003, and the all-electric Pininfarina Battista.

News Now!

The first battery supercar from the legendary Italian design house, the Battista will produce a jaw-dropping 1,900 horsepower and 1,696 pound-feet of torque, making it one of the most powerful, street-legal vehicles ever unleashed. How fast? Pininfarina claims it will hit 60 in less than two seconds and top out at 217 mph. (more…)

Ferrari Offers a V-8 Tribute with its F8 Tributo

New model draws inspiration from its predecessors.

by on Mar.05, 2019

The Ferrari F8 Tributo borrows from its exterior styling from several of its predecessors.

There were plenty of different routes Ferrari might have taken with the new, mid-engine V-8 sports car it unleashed at the Geneva Motor Show on Tuesday. In the end, it seems, it took the simpler approach.

Though billed as all-new, the Ferrari F8 Tributo isn’t all that new, after all, the two-seater just an evolutionary update of the four-year-old Ferrari 488. Not that that’s necessarily a bad thing.

Aston Martin AM-RB 003 is a High-Tech, Hybrid Hypercar

British marque turns to Red Bull for F1 powertrain technology.

by on Mar.05, 2019

The Aston Martin AM-RB 003's F1-derived drivetrain is expected to top 1,000 hp in final trim.

After weeks of teasing its new hypercar, Aston Martin has finally pulled the wraps off the AM-RB 003 at the Geneva Motor Show, and it’s a high-tech hybrid that also happens to be insanely fast, its 1,000 horsepower drivetrain able to launch from 0 to 60 in less than 3 seconds.

The AM-RB 003 picks up where the earlier Valkyrie left off, “incorporate(ing) concepts and technologies taken directly from F1,” the automaker explained as it prepared to reveal the two-seater at Geneva’s PALExpo convention center.

Auto Show News!

The limited-edition model is the third mid-engine offering developed as part of a “long-term collaboration” and “extraordinary journey” pairing Aston with its Formula One partner, Red Bull Advanced Technologies, noted the British automaker’s CEO Andy Palmer.
